Qualified Medication Aide

What is a Qualified Medication Aide (QMA)?

A Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is  an individual who assist a RN or LPN with dispensing and passing  medications and or applying/administrating treatments.  In addition, a  QMA must obtain six (6) hours of medication related in-service education  each year.  A QMA works under the direct supervision of a registered  nurse or a licensed practical nurse and can perform only procedures that  are defined within the  QMA scope of practice.

Requirements

What is required to be a Qualified Medication Aide?

  • State issued ID
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have proof of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be in good standing as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) on the Indiana Aide Registry
  • Worked a minimum of 1,000 hours as a CNA within the past 24 months
  • Criminal Background Check  (not included in tuition)
  • Physical (within 1 year)
  • TB skin test (within 1 year)
  • Ability to read, write and speak English and perform basic math.
